One long side this board is edged primarily in black, the other displays striations of black, white and red. In between is a flow of red within which traces of yellow appear.

Blacks and tans mingle with rich milky blues and soft beiges throughout this board. Small areas of red are intermingled with the main colors.

A vein of ancient sediment appears in the center as well as along the outer edges. Looking along the bottom edge of the board you will see the ancient sediment has also acquired color. This phenomenon is a fairly uncommon. To a lesser extent you also see it on the opposite edge to the left of the bump (which may have been where a branch once grew).

Here are the vibrant reds and yellows for which the petrified wood of the Chinle geological formation is noted.

On the long edges of the board, the interspersion of the yellows gives more fire to the reds. Toward the center of the board you’ll see traces of magenta running along the white quartz vein.

If you look at the middle of the board, just below the small black vein, you’ll see what appears to be a knot where a branch grew from the tree 218 million years ago.

This dramatic black and tan board is uncommonly large. The center seam and part of the seams toward the right of the picture are veins of ancient sediment which entered the tree then fossilized right along with it.

More than 7 ½ feet long and 3 ½ feet wide, it can easily become a functional or decorative part of any room in your home. It would also make an excellent small conference table.

In addition to the reds for which the Chinle geological formation is renowned, this piece also displays a degree of preservation. Note how some of the coloration follows growth ring patterns. While this is not preservation in its truest sense, it does reference the growth of the living tree.

Black defines areas around the edges as well as a flow moving toward the center. There are also touches of yellow and a small pocket of ancient sediment at the lower right.

Over 6’ long and 3½‘ wide, the size of this piece lends itself to many uses. Ovoids on asymmetrical bases make exceptionally beautiful original freestanding tables. As an island or peninsula it would provide functionality while making a bold statement. Mounted on a wall it would be a dramatic focal point.

Reds dominate this unusually shaped piece. Two areas of black are situated at almost opposite ends while small veins of blacks flow inward toward the center.

Swirls of vibrant reds appear to follow the path of growth rings around a central splash of reds. Also included in the kaleidoscope of colors are blacks, blues, yellows, and white.

Two pools of black with blue highlights appear near each end.

At over 4½' long this piece offers many possibilities.

Swirls of vibrant reds and blacks appear to follow the path of growth rings indicating a degree of preservation. While this is not preservation in its truest sense, the pattern does reference the growth of the living tree.

The inner larger swirl of black is highlighted with milky blue. The lower right edges show touches of yellow.

Just over 4½' long, this piece offers many creative opportunities.

The 3 main colors of this piece are red, black, and white. The reds and whites in the core approximate the growth ring pattern. There is a trace of blue on the upper right with other trace colors interspersed throughout the round. The round is edged with gradient blacks.

A calico piece if ever there was one. A rich mélage of reds, yellows, tans, blues, and blacks fill this round with color. Yet, with all this, some reference to the growth ring pattern can be seen.

Rich milky blues swirl around a core of yellows, tans, and reds. In some areas the color pattern appears to reference the tree’s growth rings.

Sweeping milky blues flow around a core of tans and reds. In some areas the color pattern appears to reference the tree’s growth rings.

White quartz radiates from the center surrounded by reds on two sides and a multi-colored third side.

This round almost looks as if it has a black background with color overlays. Although this is not the case, one can almost imagine that with the milky blues in the center, whites swirling around the center and a polychromatic border.

The quartz whites reference the growth ring pattern.

Growth rings are referenced in a blaze of vibrant colors! In areas where the polychrome patterns take over for the reds, the blacks seem to create vignettes of the mixed colors.

Reds surround quartz whites and blues as they swirl around the heartwood. Some referencing of the growth rings is visible. Blacks appear near the edges for the grand finale.
